A month ago, Claudio Giráldez expressed optimism regarding the renewal of Óscar Mingueza’s contract; however, as weeks pass without an agreement, interest from other clubs, including Juventus, has intensified.

The discussions between Celta and the player have been ongoing for several months, with positions fluctuating but never sufficiently converging. Celta is unable to match the lucrative salaries offered by larger clubs.

Despite these challenges, the club has not given up hope and does not plan to sell Mingueza this January, as doing so would result in Barcelona receiving half of the transfer fee. Mingueza is considered a key player for Giráldez, who enjoys a strong rapport with him.

As of two weeks ago, the player is free to negotiate with other clubs. Juventus has emerged as a strong contender, yet they are not the only club vying for his signature, with all potential suitors offering salaries significantly higher than what Celta can provide.

Since joining Celta three and a half years ago, Óscar Mingueza has played 123 official matches, scoring seven goals and ranking among the team’s top assist providers. Until recently, he was also a regular selection for national coach Luis de la Fuente.

Celta desires to retain Mingueza but acknowledges the complexities involved. While they recognize the potential loss would be significant, they also believe the positions are well covered by Sergio Carreira and Javi Rueda. Furthermore, they anticipate needing to sign a reinforcement to fill the likely void left by Mingueza’s departure.
