Andy Robertson Contemplating Future at Liverpool Amid Contract UncertaintyAndy Robertson Contemplating Future at Liverpool Amid Contract Uncertainty

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has revealed that he is uncertain about his future with the club as his contract is set to expire this summer.

Having been a mainstay at Anfield under former manager Jürgen Klopp, Robertson played a pivotal role in the squad that secured the Premier League title last season under the guidance of Arne Slot. However, his position has come under scrutiny following the £40 million signing of Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth, who has started most league matches for Liverpool this term.

When asked about his future, Robertson stated, “We’ll see what happens. We’ve had discussions which will remain private. I’ve spoken to the club, and we’ll see what unfolds.”

Regarding his desire to continue at Liverpool, the Scotland international commented, “Yes, but it’s a complex question to answer. I have five months left, and we need to evaluate the possibility of staying versus exploring other options. I’ll consult with my family to make an informed decision.”

After a challenging summer, Robertson emphasized his intention to enjoy his time at Liverpool, especially after qualifying for the World Cup. He remarked, “I need to consider what my family and I want moving forward.”

Since joining Liverpool in a £8 million transfer from Hull City in 2017, Robertson has made over 350 appearances and garnered numerous accolades, including two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

Reflecting on whether the upcoming months will influence his decision, the 31-year-old stated, “I don’t think it’s quite like that. I have given everything for the club over the past eight and a half years, and the club has rewarded me with excellent contracts based on my performances.”

He further added, “Nobody can deny my contributions to this club. I’ve put in exceptional performances and hope others recognize that. I’ve enjoyed many triumphant moments here. The next four months are not solely about what the club needs to demonstrate; my relationship with the management has always been positive since I arrived. Signing me for £8 million and what I’ve achieved since then solidifies that bond.”

Robertson continued, “Jürgen Klopp once benched me for a game, and I was frustrated! I’m the kind of player who wants to be on the pitch. I’ve pushed through injuries and played under less than optimal conditions for both club and country. I always aspire to be involved, and while my current role has its rewards, ultimately, footballers want to play. Anyone content to sit on the bench doesn’t belong in professional football.”

He concluded, “One should always strive for a spot in the team. If you are satisfied being on the bench, whether at Liverpool or Barnsley, then your attitude isn’t right. I’ve performed well in the matches I’ve played this season. While I haven’t played as much as I would prefer, it hasn’t come as a surprise. Let’s see how things develop.”
