Andy Robertson Reflects on Future at Liverpool Amid Contract UncertaintyAndy Robertson Reflects on Future at Liverpool Amid Contract Uncertainty

Andy Robertson, the Liverpool defender, is eager to continue his tenure at the club beyond this summer when his current contract expires. However, he acknowledges that as a player, his primary desire is to be on the pitch.

At 31 years old, Robertson has played 362 matches for Liverpool but has only started four Premier League games this season. He noted that discussions regarding his future are ongoing, but no decisions have been made.

When asked about his preference to stay with Liverpool, Robertson replied, “Yes, but it’s a difficult question. I have five months left on my contract, and it’s important to evaluate whether there are options to remain or to explore alternative paths. I need to sit down with my family and discuss our future.”

He shared his relief at qualifying for the World Cup with Scotland and expressed his desire to enjoy his time as a Liverpool player. “After a stressful summer, I’m focused on being a part of the team.”

Robertson, who joined Liverpool from Hull City for £8 million in 2017 during Jurgen Klopp’s management, has been a pivotal figure at the club. This season, however, he has faced increased competition from Hungary international Milos Kerkez, who has established himself as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back after transferring from Bournemouth for £40 million last summer.

Reflecting on his game time, Robertson stated, “I can look back on the past eight and a half years. Jurgen Klopp has only left me out for one game, and that was frustrating for me. I’ve played through injuries and when not fully fit. I always want to be on the field, and currently, that is not happening.”

He acknowledged that he is experiencing a different role this season, which has brought him some enjoyment, but emphasized that footballers inherently want to play. “If someone is content sitting on the bench, they may not belong at a football club.”

Robertson affirmed that he has engaged in discussions with Liverpool’s senior management regarding his future but opted to keep specific details private. Following the departure of fellow defender Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer, Robertson was named vice-captain. He conveyed that his relationship with the club’s executives remains strong.

“I have given everything to this club over the last eight and a half years, and the club has reciprocated by rewarding me with contracts that reflect my performance,” he commented. “Nobody can dispute my dedication to this club. I’ve consistently delivered strong performances, won numerous trophies, and experienced many memorable moments here.”

He concluded by stating that his relationship with club officials has been positive since his arrival, noting, “Signing me for £8 million and then witnessing my progress strengthens that bond. We have shown each other mutual respect over the years, and we will see what the future holds.”
