Morgan Rogers Rising Star with World Cup Aspirations and Transfer SpeculationsMorgan Rogers Rising Star with World Cup Aspirations and Transfer Speculations

Morgan Rogers has experienced a remarkable ascent in his football career since being acquired by Manchester City in 2019. After spending the 2020-21 season on loan at Lincoln in League One, he made his senior debut for England in November 2024. With aspirations to be part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the upcoming World Cup, Rogers is poised for what could be a significant opportunity.

At just 23, Rogers is vying for a chance to fill the crucial No. 10 role for the Three Lions, competing with Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham. His market value continues to rise following a £15 million ($20 million) transfer from Middlesbrough to Aston Villa in February 2024.

Since joining Villa, Rogers has shone on both Premier League and Champions League stages, prompting discussions about a possible transfer. Currently contracted with Villa until 2031, these terms serve to protect a valuable asset and maintain a high asking price.

Former Villa striker Stan Collymore acknowledges the possibility of a lucrative sale. In conversation with GOAL via BetWright betting, he expressed concerns about Rogers’ future: “As a Villa fan, I worry that when opportunities arise, he takes them. Having already spent time on loan and in the Championship, he opted to forge his own path, and Villa has benefited from his sensational performances.”

Regarding the World Cup squad, Collymore believes that while Rogers may not start ahead of Bellingham, he is likely to play a significant role. He anticipates Villa receiving substantial offers, possibly reaching £70-80 million plus add-ons, especially as the club navigates financial regulations.

Collymore elaborated on the dynamics of Rogers’ potential future: “He is motivated by the pursuit of trophies, highlighting his desire to win, as mentioned in a recent interview. If Villa can change their financial circumstances and secure a Champions League spot, Rogers may choose to stay. However, if they fall short, top clubs will likely express interest in acquiring him.”

He noted that Villa has a history of enhancing player performance, which could attract bids from clubs looking to offload high-earning players. Collymore believes that Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea are among the clubs that could vie for Rogers’ signature, given their financial capabilities and need for talent.

Despite the competition for a starting position in the England squad, particularly against Bellingham, Rogers continues to establish himself. With 99 appearances for Villa and 25 goals, along with 12 caps for England, he has already sparked transfer rumors involving clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea.
