CORAL GABLES, Fla. — FIFA announced on Wednesday that it has received over 500 million ticket requests for this year’s World Cup.

The governing body of soccer revealed that, apart from the host nations— the United States, Mexico, and Canada — the highest number of requests came from fans in Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Colombia.

Tickets are priced as high as $8,680. In response to public criticism, FIFA stated last month that it will offer tickets priced at $60 for every match to the 48 national federations participating in the tournament. These federations will determine how to distribute the affordable tickets to fans who attended their previous matches.

Among the most requested matches during the third sales phase, which ran from December 11 through Tuesday, was Colombia vs. Portugal on June 27 in Miami Gardens, Florida. This was followed by Mexico vs. South Korea on June 18 in Guadalajara, Mexico; the final match on July 19 in East Rutherford, New Jersey; the opening match between Mexico and South Africa on June 11 in Mexico City; and a second-round match on July 2 in Toronto.

“Understanding the significance of this tournament to fans worldwide, our only regret is that we cannot accommodate every supporter within the stadiums,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino in a statement. “That is why we are dedicated to offering multiple avenues for fans to engage with the FIFA World Cup 2026 — providing a variety of experiences beyond the stadiums, both in-person and online — to ensure that as many people as possible can partake in what will be the largest sporting event ever held.”

FIFA indicated that notifications regarding ticket applications will be sent no earlier than February 5, and allocations will be conducted randomly for matches where demand surpasses availability.
