Carrick Steps Up as Interim Manager Amid ControversyCarrick Steps Up as Interim Manager Amid Controversy

The public feud between Roy Keane and Lisa Carrick came to light in 2014 when Keane criticized the Manchester United midfielder for a lackluster performance and post-match interview. During his punditry duties, Keane remarked, “That interview was just like the performance: flat. He [Carrick] should say a bit more, have a bit more urgency, even in the interview.”

In response, Lisa Carrick tweeted a retort that was later deleted, stating, “Roy Keane, what a **** says anything to provoke a reaction.”

Following the recent dismissal of Amorim, Carrick has now been appointed as the interim manager for the remainder of the season. The former England international, who made 464 appearances for the Red Devils and secured five Premier League titles along with one Champions League title, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

He told the club’s website, “Having the responsibility to lead Manchester United is an honour. I know what it takes to succeed here; my focus is now on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club, which we know this group is more than capable of producing. I have worked with several players already and have continued to watch the team closely in recent years. I have total belief in their talents, dedication, and ability to be successful here. There is still a lot to fight for this season; we are ready to unite everyone and deliver the performances that our loyal fans deserve.”

Jason Wilcox, the club’s director of football, expressed confidence in Carrick’s capabilities, stating, “Michael is an excellent coach and knows exactly what it takes to win at Manchester United. He is prepared to lead our talented and determined group of players for the remainder of the season as we strive for regular and sustained success.”

On the latest episode of “Stick to Football” aired Thursday, the panel discussed Carrick’s appointment. Keane voiced his discontent regarding some members of the coaching staff who have joined at Old Trafford. He also made a jab regarding Carrick’s wife.

Jamie Carragher commented, “Michael Carrick has had a good, decent managerial career at Middlesbrough. But Manchester United should not be employing Michael Carrick. I love him and hope it goes well – well, I don’t hope it goes well for him – but I hope he does okay.”

Keane interjected, “Well, his wife can always come in because she’s got a bit of a big mouth sometimes.” Ian Wright chimed in with laughter, saying, “Wow. Fires shot. She’s probably just somewhere going about her business now, ‘Bam’,” to which Keane responded, “She’s probably doing the team talk.”

Carrick’s first match as interim manager will be the Manchester derby on Saturday, followed by an away game against league leaders Arsenal the subsequent Sunday. He will be supported by coaches Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion, Jonny Evans, and Craig Mawson. Currently, the Red Devils sit seventh in the Premier League, and the upcoming fixtures against the top two teams in the league may impact the standings significantly. In this regard, Carrick may face less pressure as he embarks on his new role.
