This summer, it appeared that Brighton playmaker Facundo Buonanotte was set to join newly-promoted Leeds United on loan. However, just as the Argentine was scheduled for a medical examination, Chelsea intervened and secured his loan signing.

Despite Buonanotte expressing his enthusiasm for playing with Chelsea, particularly in the Champions League, his on-field contributions have been minimal. With only one Premier League appearance and a total of eight games, his impact at Stamford Bridge has been underwhelming. Consequently, all parties agreed to terminate his loan with Chelsea, allowing him to move to Elland Road.

Before the announcement of Buonanotte’s transfer, Leeds manager Daniel Farke characterized inquiries about the 21-year-old as “speculation and rumors.” Nonetheless, he did not dismiss the possibility of acquiring additional players in January, as Leeds seeks to avoid relegation.

On Thursday, Farke stated, “We spoke openly in the summer about our objectives. We aimed to strengthen our offensive capabilities with a creative number 10 winger position, but we missed out on that on the final day. Regardless, we have developed well as a cohesive unit and are on the right path. We possess a capable squad that we trust. If we identify a player who could enhance our team—someone whose character complements our group—we would consider that. However, we will not jeopardize our team spirit.”

Farke expressed confidence that there would not be a significant shake-up in the winter transfer window, but acknowledged that there is still “always room for one, perhaps two, or three new players.”

Buonanotte, previously on loan at Leicester City, shared his excitement about joining Leeds, viewing this move as an opportunity to assert his case for a World Cup spot with Argentina. He stated, “I am very happy to be here. I specifically wanted to come to Leeds rather than anywhere else. The timing is perfect for my arrival here. I previously played with Brighton and communicated to my family and teammates that Leeds is undoubtedly one of the best teams in the Premier League. My priority is to help Leeds and perform well here, and certainly, I aspire to reach the World Cup if the opportunity arises.”

Furthermore, Buonanotte outlined the skills he brings to the team, expressing eagerness to play in front of the home crowd soon. He remarked, “I enjoy playing wide, scoring goals, and providing assists. I like to operate between the lines, and of course, my goal is to score. I want to demonstrate my abilities to the fans and prove how I can help the team remain in the Premier League. I am ready to play, and I look forward to the upcoming match!”

Buonanotte could make his debut for Leeds United this Saturday when they host an in-form Fulham. A victory for Farke’s team, currently positioned 16th in the Premier League, could see them move 11 points clear of the relegation zone, contingent upon other results. Following the match against Fulham, Leeds will face Everton on January 26 and will host league leaders Arsenal on January 31.
