Celta and Rayo: A Competitive Rivalry

Claudio Giráldez and Iñigo Pérez, both of the same age, have made remarkable contributions to their teams. Celta Vigo finds itself in a promising position, currently tied for sixth place in La Liga and actively competing in the Europa League. In contrast, Rayo Vallecano is comfortably situated in the mid-table of domestic competition while also holding a strong position in the Conference.

However, Giráldez has yet to achieve victory against Pérez, as they have faced each other four times. In two of those encounters, Pérez’s team emerged victorious, while the remaining two matches ended in draws.

Their first clash during the 2023-24 season resulted in a goalless draw at Balaídos. Last season, Rayo secured wins in both encounters, with scores of 2-1 and 1-2. This season, they again battled to a 1-1 draw during their first meeting in Vallecas.

This Sunday, Celta will be striving for their third consecutive home victory in La Liga, following earlier wins against Athletic and Valencia, particularly after not securing a league win at Balaídos until December of the previous season.
