Wouter Goes Reflects on Behavioral Changes and Improved BalanceWouter Goes Reflects on Behavioral Changes and Improved Balance

Wouter Goes has faced criticism in various matches for his behavior towards opponents, which has not always been deemed appropriate. However, during the recent cup match against Ajax, he managed to maintain a lower profile, despite receiving a notable kick from Owen Wijndal. Goes has since revealed that he has sought help to improve his conduct.

In a decisive cup match on Wednesday, AZ triumphed over Ajax with an impressive score of 6-0, leaving the Amsterdam visitors thoroughly defeated. Despite the team’s success, Goes experienced a significant blow from Wijndal, who subsequently received a red card for the incident. Speaking with Voetbal International, Goes admitted that the impact of the kick was felt. “I came away with a noticeable scrape. Owen was courteous enough to come to the locker room afterward to apologize. That was kind of him.”

Goes emphasized the necessity of achieving a greater sense of balance in his life. “I needed to have a calmer mindset. I must bring out the edge in my game at the right moments, while at other times, I need to hold back. Think of it like a glass of water: it should be emptier when I enter the match. Often, it was already quite full by the time I stepped onto the field. During games, it would quickly overflow. Now, I am managing this better. I am also seeking more tranquility at home than I did before. How I achieve that is something I keep to myself, but I am very pleased with my current progress.”
