Rescheduling of Bundesliga Match Due to Drainage IssuesRescheduling of Bundesliga Match Due to Drainage Issues

The Bundesliga fixture between Hamburger SV and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was canceled due to roof drainage issues at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion. The Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) has announced that the match will be rescheduled for early March, specifically on Wednesday, March 4th, with kickoff set for 20:40.

Unlike two other matches impacted by Winter Storm “Elli,” a prompt rescheduling was not feasible in this case. The four clubs affected by cancellations during the first Bundesliga weekend of 2026 will now play their matches at the end of the month, as they are no longer competing in either Germany’s domestic cup or European competitions.

However, Bayer Leverkusen still has obligations in the DFB Pokal and may also qualify for the 2025/26 Champions League playoff round scheduled for February 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th. Fans of both Hamburg and Leverkusen have the option to either refund their tickets from the original January 13th canceled match or retain them for the rescheduled encounter in March.
