Athletic Club returned from their match at Son Moix feeling frustrated and burned. They were seeking a victory to gain momentum for their upcoming challenges but left disheartened. Iñaki Williams, in comments to DAZN, was forthright regarding the officiating decisions.

“We feel wronged. In the incident leading to the penalty for the 3-2, Muriqi contested the ball and prevented Yuri from jumping comfortably, which left him destabilized. The VAR intervened, as the referee didn’t have a clear view. If they call it from VAR, they risk unduly influencing a play,” he stated.

Williams was equally emphatic regarding the penalty awarded in the first half for a handball by Vivian. “It is impossible for Vivian to cut his arm. It was a rebounded ball, just a moment in the game. They always tell us that a teammate’s rebound is not a penalty,” he remarked.

The forward also addressed the dismissals of Guruzeta and Unai Gómez. “Referees need to understand that we have a lot at stake and that we are human beings. They should show empathy. We all want to perform at our best. Just because someone says something doesn’t mean it warrants a yellow card,” he lamented. The captain concluded by expressing regret that it was a match they could have won, as they created clear opportunities, and praised the opposing goalkeeper for his outstanding performance.
