Girona has officially announced the arrival of Argentine forward Claudio “El Diablito” Echeverri, who will strengthen the squad managed by Míchel Sánchez for the remainder of the current season. Echeverri joins on loan from Manchester City, the parent club of the City Football Group, which is the majority owner of the Catalan club.

The Catalan side acted quickly, finalizing the player’s registration just hours before their latest match against Espanyol. Echeverri arrived at the stadium as part of the squad, awaiting confirmation of Jhon Solís’s transfer.

Echeverri had the opportunity to join Girona last summer, a move that was mutually desired by both Girona and Manchester City. However, upon the advice of his representative, Echeverri opted to sign with Bayer Leverkusen, a team competing in the Champions League.

Unfortunately, his first experience in European football has not gone as planned, as he played a limited role in Germany, participating in just 11 matches and accumulating 271 minutes across all competitions.

At Girona, the former River Plate player will join a team currently on the rise, albeit one that struggles to score goals. His ability to provide verticality and flair is expected to be a significant asset as one of the promising talents in Argentine football.

Míchel now has an additional option for his attacking lineup, thanks to the recent confirmed transfer of Solís to Birmingham, which freed up one of the three non-EU roster spots.

The Vallecas coach also requires reinforcements in the midfield, and Fran Beltrán is set to join for a nominal fee, as his contract with Celta expires on June 30. Additionally, the departure of Livakovic is anticipated to create space for Ter Stegen, along with the need for another midfielder and a left-footed center-back who can also serve as a backup for Alex Moreno, who currently lacks direct competition.
