Ajax Set to Secure Zinchenko on Loan from ArsenalAjax Set to Secure Zinchenko on Loan from Arsenal

Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf has reported that Ajax has come to an agreement with Arsenal for the loan of Oleksandr Zinchenko for the remainder of the season, pending finalization of a few details. A fresh start in Amsterdam could be beneficial for the versatile 29-year-old.

Zinchenko brings prior experience from his loan spell at PSV in the 2016-17 season and has since made 128 appearances for Premier League giants Manchester City, contributing to their four English top-flight titles.

Arsenal acquired him in the summer of 2022, but his standing at the Emirates Stadium has diminished. After ten largely unremarkable appearances for Nottingham Forest, a loan agreement is now being arranged.

Ajax is reportedly in communication with Jorge Mendes, Zinchenko’s agent, while negotiations between the clubs are being facilitated by Nathan van Kooperen, a Dutch representative from the Muy Manero agency. The club aims to enhance its midfield and defensive options, believing Zinchenko could be a wise long-term addition, especially as he is set to become a free agent this summer when his contract with Arsenal concludes. His ability to play both left-back and as a No. 6 midfielder aligns with Ajax’s needs for reinforcement in those positions.

When discussing his preferred position during his time at Forest, Zinchenko stated, “I used to be asked what position is my best, but to be honest, I’m ready to help my team wherever I can and wherever I’m needed, and I will always try to give my best.”

He further expressed his desire to make an impact both on and off the pitch, emphasizing the importance of supporting younger players with his experience.

Zinchenko described his move to the Reds under Nuno Espirito Santo as an incredible opportunity, expressing enthusiasm for helping the team achieve its goals.

However, circumstances have not unfolded as anticipated, with Forest favoring Wales international Neco Williams at left-back, despite his natural right-footedness. Dyche confirmed that the club is willing to allow Zinchenko to leave during the winter transfer window, stating, “We’ve spoken to the player and made him aware of his situation. He knows what is happening, so we’ll see what transpires.”

Zinchenko has seen limited playing time due to injury and competition for positions, leading to open discussions about his future. Dyche, known for his straightforward communication with players, noted the importance of transparency in their conversations.

As Ajax finds itself 18 points behind leaders PSV in the Eredivisie, acquiring Zinchenko is viewed with an eye towards the future, as his skill set is anticipated to thrive in the vibrant football environment of Amsterdam.
