Almeyda Announces Squad for Crucial Encounter Against ElcheAlmeyda Announces Squad for Crucial Encounter Against Elche

The list of players selected by Matías Almeyda for tomorrow’s match against Elche at the Martínez Valero has been announced. The Argentine coach has called up 22 players as they begin the second half of the league season, aiming to break a streak of three consecutive losses, four if we include their elimination from the Copa del Rey. Notably, the team has yet to score in any of these matches.

Among the returning players are Akor Adams and Ejuke, who have just concluded their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations. The Nigerian duo earned a bronze medal after defeating Egypt in a penalty shootout and arrived in Seville earlier today. Almeyda commented, “I will be able to count on them for the match. I’m not certain if they will play from the start or in the second half, but unlike previous games, we will have two attacking players on the bench, which we have lacked in recent matches.”

Additionally, Gabriel Suazo returns after recovering from the injury he sustained during the last match of 2025 against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. However, three players will miss the match due to physical issues: Rubén Vargas and Alexis Sánchez, who faced problems in the last game against Celta, and Adnan Januzaj, who is sidelined with discomfort in his right hamstring. Januzaj’s situation remains uncertain pending the results of an MRI. Other injured players, such as Azpilicueta and Alfon, continue their recovery, while Marcao is suspended.
