RB Leipzig’s captain, David Raum, found himself expressing disappointment once again after the team’s latest loss to Bayern Munich, reminiscent of their earlier encounter at the Allianz Arena during the season’s opening night. Back in August, Raum described that match as getting “punched in the mouth.”

As the 2025/26 Bundesliga “Rück-Runde” commenced at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday night, Leipzig started brightly, showcasing a strong performance against Bayern throughout the first half and securing a 1-0 lead at halftime.

However, the league leaders from Munich turned the tide in the second half, netting five goals and leaving Leipzig to cope with a staggering 1-5 loss at home. The upcoming DFB Pokal quarterfinal against Bayern raises questions about whether Leipzig is eager for redemption.

Following the match, RB head coach Werner told German public broadcaster ARD, “We put in an almost perfect performance in the first half. The only thing missing was effectiveness in front of goal. We should have been leading by more at the break. We had opportunities to take points or even win until the 80th minute, where Bayern’s keeper Manuel Neuer made two crucial saves. When you create chances like that against Bayern, you must capitalize on them.”

Captain Raum also reflected on the mixed result in the post-match interview, stating, “Today’s result has two sides to it. The first 70 minutes were commendable. We played with courage, regained possession, and created opportunities. Nevertheless, we suffered a clear defeat at home, which is unacceptable. We must critically analyze this performance. We lost our composure, and it’s imperative that we examine our shortcomings closely.”
