Joan Jord n s Uncertain Future at Sevilla FCJoan Jord n s Uncertain Future at Sevilla FC

Joan Jordán made his return to Sevilla in June with renewed aspirations. After a fruitful loan period at Alavés last season, the Catalan midfielder began his pre-season training early in Valencia alongside Barcelona’s Ferrán Torres, aiming to secure his place back in the squad. Unfortunately, a herniated disc, an ailment he has been contending with since January 2025, necessitated surgery, sidelining him until September and postponing his likely departure. Now, however, it appears that his future may be away from Nervión.

According to journalist Basilio García from ElDesmarque, Jordán is keen to leave Sevilla and has already initiated negotiations for his exit. With a contract extending until June 2027, Sevilla is contemplating two scenarios: a loan arrangement where another team covers part of his salary, or a low-cost transfer. The latter option seems more challenging, as the midfielder is seeking a stable sporting project, ideally within Spanish football.

One of the major obstacles to Jordán’s departure is his substantial salary. He is currently one of the five highest-paid players at Sevilla following his renewal in 2022. Alongside Tanguy Nianzou, he declined to adjust his salary last summer to assist the club financially, unlike Marcao, Djibril Sow, or Adnan Januzaj, who made concessions. Should he leave, it would free up enough salary cap space for sporting director Antonio Cordón to pursue reinforcements in the upcoming winter transfer market.

This season, Jordán has logged the fewest minutes among Sevilla’s first-team players, aside from Álvaro Fernández, who is no longer with the club. After a hiatus of 582 days, he made his return in early December, donning the Sevilla jersey in the Copa del Rey match against Extremadura. He has participated in a total of four matches across both competitions, playing a minimal role in LaLiga. At 31 years old, his market value is estimated at 2 million euros, according to Transfermarkt.
