Atalanta Prepares for Champions League Clash Against Athletic ClubAtalanta Prepares for Champions League Clash Against Athletic Club

The New Balance Stadium, also known as Estadio de Bérgamo in UEFA competitions, is set to host Athletic Club with a strong belief that Serie A teams can progress in the tournament, positioning Atalanta as a potential quarterfinalist. Italian coach Palladino emphasized, “I truly enjoy this Champions League format as it is incredibly engaging. We know we can achieve something unique and perhaps unprecedented in terms of points during this initial round. We have accomplished significant milestones, but the most beautiful moments are yet to come.” He added, “Being among the top eight brings prestige, helps us avoid two additional matches, and allows our players much-needed rest, especially considering they have only had one day off in January.”

The Neapolitan coach noted, “Today, I witnessed the most beautiful training session of the entire season.” He expressed gratitude to Lookman, who returned early from the Africa Cup of Nations to be available for the match against Athletic. Palladino praised his team’s response, stating, “We must maintain the same spirit and attitude as we have over the past few months, as we have the opportunity to deliver exceptional performance against a strong opponent. We continue to work hard and grow.”

Palladino remarked, “While the Athletic Club may experience inconsistencies in their results, Champions League matches are distinct. We need to play a perfect game with high intensity and exceptional skill, paying attention to every detail. Despite their absences, they have quality players who excel in counterattacks. We must give our all, as circumstances remain unchanged. Their player losses have surprised us, but we need to maintain utmost focus, as the Champions League always elevates the level of play from all perspectives.”

The coach, who has been at the helm of Atalanta for two months, shared the press room with Ederson, one of the standout players on the team. Ederson underscored the significance of the match, stating, “It’s wonderful and beneficial when we play every three days, as we can always give a little more. We respect Athletic Club, but we also have the opportunity to win, which is always exciting. Our ambition is to reach the position we deserve through our hard work. Winning the next two Champions League matches would instill significant enthusiasm and hope, but at Atalanta, we always respect our opponents.”

Palladino could not hide his emotion when asked about the recent passing of Rocco Comisso, president of Fiorentina. “He cared for me, and I cared for him. He will always hold a place in my heart,” he stated.
