Vinicius provided an honest post-match interview following Real Madrid’s commanding win over Monaco, shedding light on the mental challenges of recent weeks. The forward has faced criticism from parts of the Bernabeu crowd due to a decline in performance, a reaction that he admits has deeply affected him.

“Playing for the biggest club in the world is extremely challenging, as the expectations are incredibly high,” Vinicius shared with Movistar+. “However, I am human too. I don’t want to be booed in my own home, a place where I usually feel very comfortable. Recently, I have not felt at ease because every mistake I made was met with boos.” While he acknowledged that fans have the right to demand excellence given the high cost of tickets, he described the recent atmosphere as “very complicated.”

The Brazilian also took the chance to clarify his position regarding off-field events at the club, particularly the recent coaching change. Vinicius refuted claims of having influenced the departure of Xabi Alonso, amidst rumors of a strained relationship between them. After embracing new coach Alvaro Arbeloa on the sidelines, he expressed frustration at being a focal point for controversy.

“I often find myself at the center of attention, and I would prefer it to be for my on-field contributions rather than off-pitch events,” he asserted. He called for unity to restore momentum after the team’s elimination from the Copa del Rey and a loss in the Spanish Super Cup final, emphasizing, “Internally, we need our fans’ support to return to normalcy. Together, we can ensure this season improves.”

On the field, Vinicius silenced his critics with an impressive performance that led to Monaco’s downfall. He not only scored himself but also provided three assists, describing his goal as a moment of “liberation” following a tense period.

“It was a beautiful moment. I had assisted many times, and everyone kept saying I needed to score,” he revealed. Vinicius credited the team’s fluid attacking style for his success, noting the ease of collaboration with Kylian Mbappe when the ball is moved quickly. “We entered the match very focused, shifting the ball from side to side. This approach allows me to engage more, which is ideal for me,” he explained.

Lastly, Vinicius addressed ongoing speculation about his long-term future in Madrid. With his contract nearing its end, he assured fans and management that he is not in a hurry to initiate contract discussions.

“I have one more year on my contract,” he stated. “I trust the president, and he trusts me, so there is no rush. I’m committed to staying at the club for a long time, focusing on playing joyfully and scoring goals as I aim to lead Real Madrid back to winning titles.”
