David Cordón Mancha, commonly referred to as “Davinchi,” recently paid a heartfelt tribute to his father, David Cordón Cano, who tragically lost his life in a train collision in southern Spain that claimed the lives of 42 individuals.

David Cordón Cano, age 50, traveled to Madrid to attend Getafe’s LaLiga match against Valencia on Sunday, despite his son being sidelined due to a knee injury.

On his return journey home aboard the Alvia train to Huelva, Cordón Cano’s train was involved in a collision with an Iryo high-speed train that derailed near Adamuz, Córdoba.

In a touching Instagram post, Davinchi shared several photographs of himself with his father, writing: “You will fill me with strength in times of difficulty, and I will always remember what you always told us: always be happy and move forward.

“Everything I do in this life will always be for the brightest star I have in the sky. As someone once said, ‘When the going gets tough, only the tough get going.’ You were always a fighter, and you taught me that from the very beginning.

“The greatest act of love I can offer you is to demonstrate that I can handle anything and that I will never give up.”

Davinchi joined Getafe on a permanent transfer from Recreativo Huelva this summer and has made seven appearances in the league for the Madrid team.

In response to this tragic news, Getafe issued a statement expressing their sorrow: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the news we never wanted to share. We are heartbroken by the passing of David Cordón Cano, father of our player ‘Davinchi,’ in the tragic accident in Adamuz, Córdoba.

“We met you seven months ago, and you quickly won us over with your kindness, warmth, and generosity. We will miss you dearly! Rest in peace, dear friend.”

Additionally, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) honored Cordón, who had a distinguished career, winning two European leagues and finishing as runner-up in the World Championship finals with Spain’s soccer beach team between 2001 and 2004.
