The issue of captaincy at Feyenoord has been a hot topic throughout the season. Early in the season, Robin van Persie removed the captain’s armband from Quinten Timber, and during the winter break, he did the same with Sem Steijn. With the anticipated arrival of Mats Deijl, it is possible that the head coach may make yet another change.

Mats Deijl is poised to become the new captain of Feyenoord. Approximately two weeks ago, Van Persie appointed Timon Wellenreuther as the new captain after stripping Steijn of the role. However, this decision may soon be revised, as Feyenoord is reportedly in verbal agreement with Deijl, who is set to transfer from Go Ahead Eagles. The 28-year-old right-back currently serves as captain for his team, suggesting he could take on a leadership role in Rotterdam as well.

The dynamics between Van Persie and Timber have been strained since the captaincy change at the beginning of the season. Tensions escalated following a candid interview Timber gave to ESPN over the weekend. Reports emerged that the two had a confrontational exchange in the locker room; however, Timber later clarified that such an encounter never took place.
