Inter Miami Prepares for 2026 MLS Season Amid Transfer RumorsInter Miami Prepares for 2026 MLS Season Amid Transfer Rumors

Inter Miami has officially resumed training in anticipation of the 2026 MLS season, sparking a wave of transfer speculation. Multiple reports suggest that the club is making significant progress in negotiations with CF Monterrey forward Germán Berterame, with discussions reportedly in their final stages.

In light of these rumors, Coach Javier Mascherano was questioned about the potential impact of Berterame’s arrival on Luis Suárez’s role within the squad. Mascherano was clear in his assertion, stating, “Luis is an important player for the club, and he will continue to be. When we start preseason, everyone starts from zero. We’ll evaluate the level of every player and put the most competitive team possible on the field.”

While Mascherano refrained from confirming or denying the move for Berterame, he did indicate the club’s intentions. “We want a competitive team. What I can say is that some players have already arrived, and for sure others will arrive,” he noted.

Berterame comes off an impressive 2025 season with Monterrey, having scored 27 goals and provided five assists in 47 appearances. His intensity, pressing ability, and dynamic movement would complement Messi effectively in Miami’s attacking lineup.

The week also marked the inaugural media appearance for Facundo Mura as an Inter Miami player. The former Racing Club defender expressed his emotions regarding the transition, stating, “Being [Lionel Messi’s] teammate is a dream come true. For every Argentine, every South American, every footballer, it should be like that. With Leo, Suárez, and [Rodrigo] De Paul, there’s an important group here. We’re going to fight for our objectives, and I’m very happy and excited for what’s coming.”

Inter Miami, under the leadership of Messi—who will play at Alejandro Villanueva Stadium for the first time—will arrive in Lima on January 23, ahead of a match against Alianza Lima the following day. This encounter will take place during La Noche Blanquiazul, coinciding with the commencement of celebrations for the club’s 125th anniversary.
