Josh Sargent has been excused from Norwich City’s first-team activities following a meeting with sporting director Ben Knapper and head coach Philip Clement. He is now training with the club’s second team as he considers a move away from Norwich.

Reports from The Athletic indicate that Sargent was visibly distressed during recent discussions, with sources suggesting that remarks regarding his family contributed to his current situation. Consequently, he has not participated in first-team training and missed Norwich’s recent 5–0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Toronto FC has emerged as a frontrunner for Sargent’s signature, with both Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic reporting that the MLS club has made an $18 million offer to bring the striker back to North America.

While negotiations are still in progress, there seems to be growing momentum towards finalizing a deal.

Just a few weeks ago, Norwich manager Philip Clement stated that the club had no intention of selling Sargent during this transfer window, asserting that they had communicated this stance clearly to both the player and his agent. However, the situation has evolved, and Norwich now appears to be open to negotiations as discussions continue.

In light of the uncertainty surrounding Sargent’s future, Norwich City has started exploring alternative options. Reports suggest that the club is making a significant effort to sign Danish striker Kasper Høgh from Bodø/Glimt, who impressively scored 17 goals last season and has garnered interest from various European clubs.

Currently, Norwich sits at the bottom of the Championship standings with 30 points, having temporarily distanced themselves from the relegation zone. As discussions between Toronto FC and Norwich progress, all indications suggest that Sargent’s departure may soon be finalized, pending a complete agreement between the clubs.
