Dennis Schmitt, interim coach of Eintracht Frankfurt, faced questions regarding the possibility of a “beer summit” to address his team’s recurring defensive errors. His remarks came during the post-match press conference after the team’s recent elimination from the Champions League.

Markus Krösche, a board member responsible for sports, expressed frustration over the team’s tendency to repeat their mistakes. In the mixed zone, Danish fullback Rasmus Kristensen, one of the players frequently making errors, dismissed the idea that a casual gathering could alleviate team tensions.

Schmitt was queried by three German journalists about potential solutions to the defensive issues. After engaging with outlets such as Frankfurter Rundschau, Sport Bild, and Kicker, he was asked by Hessischen Rundfunk whether these challenges could be addressed on or off the pitch, including the possibility of a team evening.

Responding to the inquiry, Schmitt remarked, “It would be nice if one could solve the problem over a pint. We would have already done so if it would have worked. We simply need time, analysis, and training. What is visible on the pitch is always the result of hard work.”

He added, “We don’t have much time. We will fly back from Azerbaijan tomorrow and have Friday to prepare. I assure you that we will do everything in our power to break this pattern, and I am confident that the players will take a step in the right direction.”

Schmitt noted, “I believe I saw some progress today. We displayed compactness in various phases and effectively applied pressure off the ball. We managed the spaces and dealt with long balls effectively.

“However, we might not have been confident enough to convert transitional moments into counterattacks or create opportunities,” he concluded. “We are making strides forward. The team possesses quality, and we will not succumb to self-pity. We will absorb today’s setback and move forward with determination tomorrow.”
