Oier Luengo Set to Join Burgos Embracing New OpportunitiesOier Luengo Set to Join Burgos Embracing New Opportunities

Oier Luengo is on the brink of becoming the newest player for Burgos, ready to work under coach Luis Miguel Ramis. This transfer has been significantly influenced by Michu, who has been instrumental in tipping the scales in favor of the Burgos team. Luengo’s arrival at Burgos comes amidst interest from other clubs, including Cádiz and Huesca.

In addition to Luengo, the Chilean midfielder Pablo Galdames is also set to join Burgos after terminating his contract with Independiente.

Having seen limited action this season with Oviedo, Luengo is seeking a change in environment to gain more playing time and continuity. The firm interest from Burgos, coupled with a lack of opportunities at the Carlos Tartiere, has expedited his departure, which will be formalized as a loan once the agreement is finalized.

Luengo joined Oviedo in 2022 following Amorebieta’s relegation, viewed as a long-term investment. Although his early days were challenging, he gradually established himself as an important member of the team. The 2023-24 season marked his definitive breakthrough, as he accumulated matches, earned leadership roles, and played a key part during critical moments of the campaign. His performance earned him considerable appreciation from the fans.

However, this season brought a complete shift in circumstances. With only three official appearances and a secondary role, the central defender was prompted to reassess his situation. Earlier in the summer, there were attempts to leave, but he opted to stay. Now, with a contract extending until 2027, he embraces the challenge at Burgos to rejuvenate his career.

Luengo bids a temporary farewell to Oviedo after making 92 official appearances, scoring five goals and providing three assists. He leaves behind a notable legacy characterized by his competitive spirit and commitment. Oviedo’s fans are left with a sentiment of ‘see you later’ rather than a farewell, holding onto the hope of witnessing him don the blue jersey again in the future.
