Tomas Cvancara (right) is poised to make his debut for Celtic in the upcoming Scottish Premiership match against Hearts, with fellow striker Johnny Kenny’s participation in doubt due to a calf strain.

Manager Martin O’Neill has hinted that the 25-year-old Czech Republic international, who recently joined the club on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach, will be instrumental in addressing Celtic’s striking challenges and helping the defending champions ascend the league table.

As Celtic prepares to travel to Edinburgh, they find themselves six points behind leaders Hearts and have suffered defeats in both encounters against them this season.

Despite the importance of this match and Kenny’s potential absence, O’Neill is cautious about placing undue pressure on Cvancara. “He trained this morning and he’s ready to go,” O’Neill stated. “I wouldn’t want to put too much pressure on him—he’s not just going to be the solution to all our issues.

“Let him settle in; I believe he will make an impact, and I hope he does. However, I don’t want to burden him with the responsibility of solving all our problems. His commitment is clear, and he aims to perform well, potentially earning a return to the Czech Republic national team as a result.”

Kenny sustained his injury during Thursday’s Europa League draw against Bologna, yet Celtic’s attacking options are boosted by the return of Kelechi Iheanacho to training, who has been sidelined since his injury in the Premier Sports Cup final against St Mirren last month.

O’Neill commented, “It might be a stretch to start him right now, but at least he is available.”

Hearts have had a remarkable season, having defeated Celtic 3-1 at Tynecastle in October during Brendan Rodgers’ final match in charge, and won 2-1 at Parkhead in December when Wilfried Nancy began his ill-fated tenure. O’Neill took over following Rodgers’ resignation, achieving a perfect record in his six domestic matches and has continued this success since his return.

Knowing the significance of the upcoming match, O’Neill remarked, “This is going to be a crucial game, without a doubt. A defeat would create a long road back for us. While it may not signify the end, trailing by nine points with only 15 matches left would be challenging to overcome.”

O’Neill commended the efforts of Hearts’ head coach Derek McInnes and anticipates a “fiery” atmosphere on Sunday, commenting, “Their season has been nothing short of brilliant. They have truly capitalized on the slips of Celtic and Rangers, demonstrating their own drive and earning great credit for their performance.”
