Florian Plettenberg reports that Sunderland is considering the acquisition of Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Jonas Omlin. The Black Cats are willing to pursue the Swiss international, who recently lost both his starting position and the captaincy at Gladbach just before the onset of the current Bundesliga season.

Currently, Omlin’s estimated market value is approximately €1.5 million.

As highlighted in our recent Get German Football News article regarding Borussia Mönchengladbach’s transfer situation, the club is keen to offload several players in the remaining ten days of the January transfer window. Omlin is viewed as one of the more significant burdens on the BMG squad, particularly due to his high salary as the former skipper.

Gladbach has several alternatives lined up to either support or replace their current No. 1, Moritz Nicolas, who himself has been rumored to be on the move to the Premier League.

However, any potential deal involving Omlin will face challenges due to his existing contract with BMG. For the transfer to proceed, Omlin may need to agree to a pay cut.
