Köln’s head coach, Lukas Kwasniok, known for his engaging press conference speeches, has once again captivated audiences with his candid remarks. During a recent press conference, he responded to a question regarding Bayern Munich’s overwhelming dominance in the Bundesliga, initiating a lengthy discourse.

Kwasniok began by acknowledging his struggle with media interactions, saying, “I’ve never been one who feels totally at home in the media, but how can this be construed as ‘positive’?” He highlighted the competitive landscape of teams like Leipzig, Dortmund, and Leverkusen, which, despite their efforts, seem to fade into the background against Bayern’s success. He criticized the media portrayal of teams such as Eintracht Frankfurt, which he feels is overly negative, suggesting that they are unfairly treated as though they are facing relegation.

He further elaborated, stating, “The expectations and standards are so high that second place no longer has any worth. That’s a total ‘system error.’” Kwasniok expressed concern that below the second place, the perception is overwhelmingly pessimistic.

“I have the feeling that, below second place, everything is abysmal,” he noted, after meandering through several related topics. Kwasniok concluded by challenging the idea that other teams are failing to provide enjoyment. “The notion that all the others are awful and no fun to watch is weird. The stadiums are always full. We’re doing well and having fun. One perspective says it’s terrible, but it’s not so terrible. Everything’s okay.”

His remarks reflect a broader issue within the league regarding expectations and perceptions, making it clear that there is more to the Bundesliga than just the dominance of a single team.
