Fede Viñas Addresses Urgent Need for Victory Ahead of Girona Match

He stated, “We know that time is running out, and we need to secure victories. There are crucial matches ahead, but the most important one is this Saturday against Girona. We must win, and then we will think about the rest.” He emphatically added, “For us, as the coach mentioned earlier in the gym, the match against Girona is our World Cup final.”

The Uruguayan forward did not hide his frustration following the recent defeat against Barcelona, a match in which his team performed well in the first half but ultimately suffered due to costly mistakes. “The analysis cannot be positive since we did not achieve victory. Barcelona is one of the toughest opponents, but there is a feeling of bitterness because we competed well in the first half and then paid a high price for our errors. We must lift our heads and move forward,” he explained.

Viñas also acknowledged that while the team has shown improvement in recent weeks, they have struggled to convert this into points. “The bitterness lies in the fact that over the last month we played well, took the lead several times, and then failed to maintain it.”

Regarding the league standings, he admitted the challenge of being nine points away from safety, but stressed the importance of overcoming mental barriers. “It is difficult to manage being nine points from safety. As long as the math allows, we will keep trying. We need to break the psychological barrier and achieve that long-awaited victory. If we manage to do so, I believe we will start to rise.”

Viñas highlighted the potential of their opponent, recalling that Girona was once in a similar situation. “Not long ago, Girona was in the same position as us. They strung together a couple of victories and are now well-positioned. With the reinforcements they have made, they are a competitive team that plays well; it will be a very tough match.
