omidbasir- Willum Thór Willumsson is poised for a possible return to the Eredivisie, as NEC has set its sights on the former standout from Go Ahead Eagles. The 27-year-old Icelandic player has seen limited playing time at Birmingham City.

NEC is actively searching for offensive reinforcements in light of the recent departures of Vito van Crooij and Rober Gonzalez. According to SoccerNews, there is growing interest in Isak Hansen-Aarøen from Werder Bremen for the number ten position, and Willumsson is also on their radar, as reported by De Gelderlander. The club’s management in Nijmegen is keen on acquiring a player who can elevate the competition alongside Tjaronn Chery.

In contrast, Go Ahead Eagles have expressed no interest in bringing Willumsson back. Last week, director Jan Willem van Dop stated that Willumsson was offered to the club during transfer discussions concerning Milan Smit, who recently transferred to Stoke City for €5.5 million. “There is no place for him here, and I must be honest about that,” Van Dop remarked to RTV Oost. While a return to his former club seems unlikely for the 18-time international, a move to NEC could still be on the horizon. Notably, his brother Brynjólfur Willumsson currently plays for FC Groningen.
