omidbasir- Trinity Rodman, a forward for the United States women’s national soccer team, found the back of the net for the second consecutive match during a resounding 5-0 victory over Chile at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, California. The match was highlighted by a viral goal celebration dance involving Rodman and head coach Emma Hayes.

Rodman’s goal capped off a commanding performance, which also featured international goals from Croix Bethune, Jameese Joseph, and Emily Sams, extending the team’s winning streak to six matches.

Postgame, Hayes shared an anecdote about Rodman’s enthusiasm for celebration, stating, “She said, ‘You are doing it tonight.'” The coach admitted her surprise, reflecting on her initial doubts as Rodman maneuvered through a crowded box. “I was dying. But listen, these players keep me young. I’m not complaining,” Hayes added with a smile.

Before Rodman’s entry into the match in the 64th minute, the U.S. had already established a 4-0 lead, courtesy of goals from Bethune, Joseph, Sams, and Emma Sears. Following their previous 6-0 win against Paraguay, Hayes opted for a lineup with an average of 5.2 national team appearances per player, the lowest since 2001.

“I’m proud of them. I always say this, I’m not watching the opponent. I’m watching us,” Hayes commented. She emphasized the importance of valuable experiences for the players, many of whom are vying for positions in future tournaments.

Regarding the 23-year-old Rodman, who recently captained the national team against Paraguay, Hayes expressed admiration for her ability to bring joy to both the team and its supporters. “I can be demanding and hold high standards, but I can also smile and have a good time,” Hayes noted, praising Rodman’s impact.

In the lead-up to the January matches, Rodman made headlines after securing a deal with the Washington Spirit, making her the highest-paid player in NWSL history.

Hayes also highlighted the growing competition for national team call-ups, stating, “There’s competition for places, and everything you do matters. It’s not a shoo-in for anyone.” With European-based players still in their respective seasons, the January roster was entirely composed of NWSL representatives, with Gotham FC absent due to their participation in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup in London.

Looking ahead, Hayes will prepare for the SheBelieves Cup in March, while also strategizing for the qualification process for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
