omidbasir- Borussia Mönchengladbach has officially recalled goalkeeper Jan Olschowsky from Alemannia Aachen. In a corresponding move, Aachen has signed former VfL Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann to replace Olschowsky. Both clubs swiftly finalized these transactions following Jonas Omlin’s loan to Bayer Leverkusen earlier today.

Gladbach’s decision to loan out their once-promising “goalkeeper of the future” has proven beneficial for all parties involved. The 24-year-old goalkeeper made a substantial impact during his 20 appearances in the 3. Liga this season. Although he managed to keep only two clean sheets, Olschowsky demonstrated solid performances throughout his time at Aachen.

Olschowsky has also made four appearances in the Bundesliga. Should current BMG No. 1 Moritz Nicolas depart this summer, Olschowsky is well-positioned to compete with young Luxembourg international Tiago Pereira Cardoso for the starting position.

Manuel Riemann, a veteran goalkeeper, previously found himself excluded from the Bochum squad ahead of the 2023/24 promotion-relegation playoff. After experiencing seven tumultuous months that included filing several labor complaints in local Westphalian courts, Bochum terminated Riemann’s contract last January, allowing him to sign with Paderborn.

During his time at Paderborn, Riemann made 13 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga last spring before being released at the end of the summer. The 37-year-old has been without a club since then. His new contract with Aachen is set to run until the end of the current season.

“Jan, who was trained by us, now has another chance to prove himself on the goalkeeping team of his home club,” noted Gladbach’s sporting director, Rouven Schröder, in a statement. “The loan to Aachen was beneficial for his development.”

“It feels like coming home,” Olschowsky stated. “My time in Aachen was crucial for my growth. Now I aim to contribute to Borussia’s success.”

Rachid Azzouzi, sporting director of Alemannia, expressed enthusiasm about Riemann’s signing, saying, “With Manuel Riemann, we are gaining an experienced goalkeeper who brings the calm and stability we need for the second half of the season. He knows all three German professional leagues from personal experience.”

Riemann himself remarked, “I am very much looking forward to playing for Alemannia from this point forward. The club embodies tradition and passion. I am eager to meet my teammates and work together towards a successful second half of the season.”
