Hugo Ekitike Reflects on Success and Ambitions at LiverpoolHugo Ekitike Reflects on Success and Ambitions at Liverpool

omidbasir- Hugo Ekitike has expressed his eagerness for further achievements following his 12th goal of the season during Liverpool’s impressive 6-0 victory against Qarabag FK.

Arne Slot’s squad advanced comfortably to the last 16 of the Champions League, with Ekitike being one of the standout players of the match. The French international has made a significant impact since joining Liverpool for an initial fee of £69 million ($92.7 million) from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, currently leading as the club’s top scorer this season.

Despite his success, Ekitike believes there is room for improvement and has voiced confidence in Liverpool’s ability to overcome their recent challenges. “I would say I’m doing well,” Ekitike remarked when asked to evaluate his early experiences at Anfield.

“Certainly, I could perform better or worse. I am pleased with my progress. The key factor has been establishing strong connections with my teammates off the pitch, which significantly contributes to my performance. While I feel content, I am eager for more and hold myself to high standards, necessitating continued hard work.”

Reflecting on the team’s previous match against Bournemouth, Ekitike stated, “Everyone gave their all. Like any team, we face hurdles, but we remain united and I am hopeful for a turnaround. I genuinely believe in our quality and that good results are on the horizon.”

Since his arrival, Ekitike has quickly garnered a fan following on Merseyside, receiving a standing ovation at Anfield when he was substituted in the second half of the recent match. “It means an incredible amount to me,” he shared. “I play for the fans, who give me immense energy. Even during games when I haven’t scored, hearing my name from the crowd is exhilarating. It fulfills a childhood dream and I am grateful for their support, wanting to give them even more to ensure their happiness.”

Ekitike was previously rumored to be joining Newcastle United in the summer before ultimately opting for Liverpool. As he prepares for a potentially hostile reception from Newcastle fans during their upcoming Premier League visit, he remains confident in his decision. “We were indeed close to joining Newcastle, but I followed my heart in choosing Liverpool. That’s all I can say.”

“I am indifferent to the reception from Newcastle fans. My focus is on representing Liverpool, where I have my supporters. We have already played there and emerged victorious, so I hope for a productive week of training. My priority is to play and support the team—it’s as simple as that.”
