Timo Werner’s Departure from RB Leipzig Confirmed as He Joins San Jose Earthquakes

Timo Werner’s departure from RB Leipzig has been officially confirmed. The Bundesliga club announced the premature termination of his contract to enable a transfer to the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer. This move signifies the conclusion of Werner’s career chapter in his home country.

In an official statement from RB Leipzig, Werner expressed his sentiments, saying, “Leipzig is more than just a stop on my career for me. I’ve had some special moments here, played some great games, and felt some unforgettable emotions. Now the time has come to start a new chapter in my career. I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, staff, and above all, the fans.”

Marcel Schäfer, the sporting director of RB Leipzig, also acknowledged Werner’s contributions, stating, “Timo Werner is and remains closely linked to the success story of RB Leipzig. He played a major role in the club’s first outstanding Bundesliga seasons, became a German national team player here, played in the Champions League for the first time with Leipzig, and later won two trophies: the 2023 DFB Pokal and the 2023 DFL Supercup.”

Schäfer further noted, “With 113 club goals, he will probably remain RBL’s record goalscorer for years to come. Despite the challenging circumstances in recent months, Timo has behaved in an absolutely professional manner. We have now found a solution that is beneficial for all parties involved.
