Pogba s Future in Football A Mixed OutlookPogba s Future in Football A Mixed Outlook

omidbasir- There has been a strong ambition on his part to achieve the status of a centurion in football, and at one point, it seemed inevitable that he would reach this milestone. However, Pogba’s career encountered a serious setback in September 2023.

During his second stint with Serie A club Juventus, he faced a four-year suspension from all football-related activities. Although this sentence was later reduced upon appeal, it resulted in the termination of his long-term contract in Turin, leaving him sidelined for an extended period.

After spending several months as a free agent, Monaco reached out to Pogba, offering him an opportunity to return to his home country. Nevertheless, it took time for him to regain his fitness, leading to just three appearances this season at the age of 32.

While there is no doubt about his capabilities at the height of his career, questions remain whether the former Manchester United star can return to his peak form. Sagna believes that anything is possible and does not dismiss the idea of a surprising recall to the national team.

When asked if Pogba’s international career has come to an end, Sagna, a former defender for Arsenal and Manchester City, stated, “No, I don’t think so. He is a special player who can adapt to any demands from the coach. Physically, it may be a challenge since a long absence can affect one’s physical condition, but he possesses exceptional talent that allows him to perform well. He doesn’t need to rely solely on his speed. Mentally and technically, he outpaces many. You never know; surprises can happen. He could be an unexpected choice for Didier Deschamps.

“It’s essential for him now to return to playing, as he has three months to get back into shape. I wouldn’t rule him out because of who he is. Having played with him, I understand the significant impact he can have on a team. He doesn’t need to run excessively. For instance, I didn’t observe Sergio Busquets running constantly; his intelligence and technical prowess enabled him to read the game effectively. I wouldn’t say ‘no,’ but he must get match-ready.”

Another former French international, 1998 World Cup champion Frank Leboeuf, recently expressed skepticism regarding Pogba’s chance for another shot at the prestigious trophy. He remarked, “Didier Deschamps has a strong affinity for Paul Pogba. If Paul can return to his best, which I find difficult to believe after such a long time out, he must resume playing.

“At over 30 years old, there are other players who have demonstrated consistency. It will be challenging for Didier Deschamps to include him, especially with potential selections like N’Golo Kante. It’s hard to justify bringing back Pogba alongside other stars unless he proves himself. I would give him a five percent chance, simply out of goodwill, but personally, I think it’s over.”

As France prepares for the upcoming tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer, they are considered one of the favorites. They will kick off their campaign in Group I on June 16 against Senegal, followed by matches against the winner of an inter-confederation playoff and Erling Haaland’s Norway.
