Joël Drommel: A Rising Star in the Eredivisie with International Aspirations

Sparta’s standout player is eager to make a move abroad. Coach Maurice Steijn has acknowledged that Drommel’s talents cannot be retained at Sparta, stating that the PSV loanee is ‘good enough for a better club.’ Drommel himself is looking forward to the opportunity to play overseas, saying, “Ultimately, I will need to report back to PSV, and from there we will see how things progress,” in an interview with ESPN.

Valentijn Driessen, however, has expressed skepticism regarding the praise directed at Drommel, suggesting that it may be exaggerated. In his comments on VI this week, he remarked, “You typically don’t face this many shots in a match. If you do get a lot of shots, you’re bound to save a few. Playing at Sparta is much easier compared to PSV, where you might face two shots and need to save both. He makes some good saves, but that’s what goalkeepers are there for. Next week, he might let in two easy goals; that’s the nature of some keepers.”
