Kieron Bowie Becomes Hibernian s Record Transfer with Move to Hellas VeronaKieron Bowie Becomes Hibernian s Record Transfer with Move to Hellas Verona

Kieron Bowie has made history as Hibernian’s record transfer following his move to Serie A club Hellas Verona on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

While the exact fee has not been disclosed, Hibernian confirmed that it “substantially exceeds” the £4.4 million paid by Celtic for midfielder Scott Brown back in 2007.

The 23-year-old forward netted 15 goals in 52 appearances for Hibernian after joining the club from Fulham in 2024.

Hibernian’s head coach David Gray expressed gratitude towards Bowie: “Firstly, I would like to thank Kieron for the way he has conducted himself over the last 18 months. He has been a pleasure to coach and has excelled both on and off the pitch. This is a life-changing move for him and his family. He has a bright career ahead of him, and we wish him every success in Italy and in the future.”

Earlier this week, Hibernian turned down an initial bid from Verona; however, Bowie subsequently traveled to Milan to complete his medical examination after a second offer was accepted.

The transfer fee has the potential to increase based on performance-related add-ons, and Hibernian has also secured a sell-on clause in the agreement.

As Verona currently sits at the bottom of Serie A, four points adrift of safety, they are gearing up for a crucial match against Cagliari on Saturday.

Malky Mackay, Hibernian’s sporting director, extended his well wishes to Bowie: “I would like to wish Kieron all the best with his move. It has been a joy to witness his development at Hibernian, particularly as he progressed through the international youth ranks before earning his first senior cap for Scotland. There has been considerable speculation regarding Kieron, with multiple clubs making bids during the transfer window. We have worked diligently to secure a deal that accurately reflects his true value and serves the best interests of Hibernian and all parties involved.”
