Nottingham Forest has successfully negotiated a deal to acquire Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega for a fee that could reach £500,000.

In addition, Sean Dyche’s team is pursuing Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, aiming to secure him initially on loan with the potential for a permanent transfer.

The 26-year-old Frattesi has made 33 appearances for the Italian national team and has played 19 matches for Inter this season.

Ortega, a 33-year-old German, currently ranks as the third choice goalkeeper at the Etihad Stadium, following Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford. With his contract expiring this summer, Ortega has yet to feature for Pep Guardiola’s side in the current season.

Forest’s need for a goalkeeper has arisen due to a knee injury sustained by John Victor, which is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the season. Initially, the club had discussions with Wolves regarding a transfer for Jose Sa but has now shifted its focus to Ortega.

Since joining Manchester City in 2022, Ortega has appeared in 56 games, playing a pivotal role in the club’s Premier League title victory in 2024. Last season, he made 22 appearances, including in the Club World Cup in July and the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

Currently positioned 17th in the Premier League and participating in the Europa League play-offs, Nottingham Forest has already signed Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca on loan and recently had a £35 million bid for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta turned down.
