omidbasir- Lucas Paquetá has revealed that he turned down interest from Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea before finalizing his transfer to Flamengo in Brazil.

On Thursday, Paquetá signed with Flamengo for £35.8 million ($49.4 million), making him the most expensive player ever acquired by a Brazilian club. The 28-year-old midfielder, who had 18 months left on his contract with West Ham United, expressed his affection for Flamengo during an interview with Flamengo TV.

“Tottenham called, Chelsea called, and the amusing aspect is that my agent, Tata, excitedly informed me about Chelsea’s interest and their impending offer,” Paquetá shared. “My response was, ‘That’s fine, but what about Flamengo?’ To which he replied, ‘Are you serious?’ I confirmed, stating, ‘Yes, I’m not interested in that. I want to focus on Flamengo,’ and that’s how things progressed.”

West Ham had hoped to retain Paquetá until the end of the season to assist in their fight against relegation from the Premier League. Nonetheless, Paquetá expressed a desire to return to Brazil in anticipation of the World Cup.
