Dominik Schneider reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach is on the verge of finalizing a loan deal for promising midfielder Charles Herrmann. The 20-year-old has been a consistent performer for the Gladbach reserves in the German fourth division but has struggled to break into the first team.

Following the promotion of interim head coach Eugen Polanski from BMG II, Herrmann was called upon during Polanski’s debut match against Leverkusen. He was brought on as a substitute and was entrusted with taking a crucial late corner, which led to an assist for Gladbach’s equalizing goal in a 1-1 draw during matchday four.

Polanski has consistently praised Herrmann and other young talents who played under his guidance as the season progressed. However, since that September match, Herrmann has not featured in any top-tier games. He made the squad for five of Polanski’s matchdays but remained unused on the bench. The Hannover native did, however, see some playing time as a substitute during Gladbach’s December Pokal match against St. Pauli, where they suffered a loss.

Polanski is likely keen to ensure that many of the young talents he nurtured at BMG II are given opportunities to play elsewhere. Interestingly, he was part of the coaching staff at Gladbach that expressed concerns regarding the development of Köln phenom Said El Mala while he was training in the club’s youth system.
