Former England defender and five-time Premier League champion with Chelsea, John Terry, recently conducted a successful auction through American auction house Goldin Auctions, selling more than fifty items from his personal collection.

The auction garnered over $695,000, including the buyer’s premium. Among the notable items consigned by Terry were a match-worn and photo-matched Lionel Messi Barcelona jersey and a match-worn, photo-matched, and signed Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United jersey. The Messi jersey, worn during Chelsea’s Champions League group stage match against Barcelona on October 18, 2006, fetched $183,000, while the Ronaldo jersey, worn during the Premier League match on April 26, 2008, sold for $115,900, setting a record for a Ronaldo jersey.

In addition to these iconic jerseys, the auction featured match-worn signed jerseys from Thierry Henry of Arsenal and Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus. Henry’s jersey, from the “Invincibles Season” match against Chelsea on October 18, 2003, where he scored in the 75th minute, sold for $98,820. Buffon’s gold jersey from the Champions League Round of 16 against Chelsea on March 10, 2009, brought in $22,265, marking the highest prices for jerseys worn by both players.

Terry’s auction also included a trove of his own jerseys representing England, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, as well as match-worn jerseys from notable players such as Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Paolo Maldini, Cesc Fabregas, and others. Additionally, Terry consigned several trophies, with the most valuable being his 2007 replica player-issued FA Cup champions trophy, which sold for $26,840. A collection of his captain’s armbands from his time with England, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, multiple pairs of match-worn cleats, and two pairs of match-worn shin guards were also part of the auction.

A portion of the auction’s proceeds will benefit the John Terry Foundation, which supports disadvantaged youth throughout the United Kingdom.
