Injury Blow for Norwich as Young Talent Amass Faces Extended AbsenceInjury Blow for Norwich as Young Talent Amass Faces Extended Absence

Eighteen-year-old Harry Amass began the season with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday before being recalled and subsequently loaned to Norwich City. He made his debut for Norwich in a 2-1 victory against league leaders Coventry City, but was absent from Saturday’s match, which ended in a 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough.

Amass, a promising youth prospect at Manchester United, had featured in seven first-team matches for the club last season. Unfortunately, he now faces a significant period on the sidelines due to injury.

After the defeat to Middlesbrough, Norwich manager Philippe Clement disclosed that Amass sustained his injury during the final training session before the game. He noted that Norwich would coordinate with Manchester United regarding Amass’s recovery.

Clement stated, “Harry, in the dying seconds of training, got an injury. I didn’t want to comment extensively immediately after training because we hadn’t assessed it yet. However, it appears to be serious, and he will likely be out for an extended duration. Since he is on loan from United, it is crucial that we discuss this with them before making any public comments.”

When asked about acquiring a replacement in the transfer market, Clement confirmed, “No, we will not be looking to bring in another left-back. We will address this issue with the current squad, as we already have four left-backs on our payroll.”

Amass was previously among the United youngsters who received unusual criticism from former manager Ruben Amorim, who commented on the situations of fellow players Kobbie Mainoo and Chido Obi last December.

Amorim remarked, “Amass is now facing challenges in the Championship. Chido is not always a starter in the U21s. These players were active during a time when many were suggesting we sack the manager.”

Conversely, Amass had showcased his talent while at Sheffield Wednesday, earning the club’s Player of the Month awards for November and December, during which he participated in 21 games and scored one goal.

Official confirmation regarding the specifics of Amass’s injury is anticipated in the coming days, though early indications suggest a serious concern. It remains uncertain if he will return to play this season, which poses a significant setback for Norwich, who had enjoyed a successful streak of four consecutive wins across all competitions prior to Saturday’s loss.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will focus on their upcoming match against Fulham, knowing that a victory would propel them back above Chelsea and Liverpool in the pursuit of a top-four finish.
