On Saturday night, Barcelona extended their impressive run of form by securing their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions, comfortably defeating Elche with goals from Yamal, Torres, and Rashford.

The visitors dominated the match, registering 30 shots and an expected goals tally of 6.44. However, the game was not without its challenges; Alvaro Rodriguez managed to equalize after Yamal’s initial goal, making Rashford’s decisive strike in the 72nd minute essential for the win after Torres had restored Barcelona’s lead.

This victory places Barcelona in a favorable position in the La Liga title race, although Real Madrid is also in strong form and could reduce the gap to one point if they secure a win against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Despite Barcelona’s overall dominance, manager Flick expressed disappointment at his team’s inability to secure the win earlier. When questioned about the team’s finishing, he stated, “It was important that we get three points today. We played a fantastic game except in the last metres of the pitch. The good thing is we were switched on from the very beginning, creating many chances, but unfortunately, we missed several of them.”

Flick was particularly complimentary of young talent Yamal, who scored the opening goal in the sixth minute and created an impressive eight chances throughout the match. He remarked, “It’s crucial for the team and the club. His high-level performance benefits everyone. He’s young enough to continue improving and reach even greater heights.”

Yamal has now scored four goals in his last five appearances and has recorded two assists during this period, bringing his season totals to 13 goals and 12 assists in 28 matches across all competitions.

With their position in La Liga secured for another week, Barcelona will shift their focus to the Copa del Rey. The reigning champions, who won the title in 2024-25, will face second-tier team Albacete on Tuesday night. Yamal may be rested for this match, though he could be called upon as a substitute if needed.

Following the Copa del Rey fixture, Flick’s side will take on Mallorca, Girona, and Levante in La Liga matches throughout the remainder of February.
