Liverpool is actively exploring the possibility of signing Netherlands international Lutsharel Geertruida on loan from RB Leipzig, according to sources reported by ESPN.

Currently, Geertruida is on a season-long loan with Sunderland, a Premier League club. However, discussions are underway to assess whether this agreement can be terminated, facilitating his move to Anfield.

The 25-year-old defender has emerged as a key target as Liverpool seeks to strengthen their defensive lineup before the transfer window closes on Monday. The team has been grappling with multiple defensive injuries this season, with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, while Joe Gomez and Jeremie Frimpong are also currently sidelined.

Primarily positioned as a right-back, Geertruida also possesses the ability to play as a center-back or in midfield, making his versatility a significant asset for Liverpool as they aim for a top-four finish this season.

Geertruida previously played under Liverpool head coach Arne Slot for three seasons at Feyenoord, where he served as team captain before transferring to Leipzig in 2024.
