Nottingham Forest has officially secured the signing of goalkeeper Stefan Ortega from Manchester City. The transfer, valued at up to £500,000, involves the 33-year-old who is set to become a vital addition to the squad as he is currently out of contract this summer.

Ortega, who has been the third choice goalkeeper at the Etihad Stadium behind Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford, brings a wealth of experience and a strong winning mentality, having been part of a successful team over recent seasons. Edu Gaspar, Nottingham Forest’s global head of football, remarked, “Stefan arrives here with fantastic experience and a winning mentality, having been part of such a successful team for the past few seasons. When it became clear that the goalkeeper position was one we needed to address, Stefan stood out immediately. He will provide great competition for our group of goalkeepers and will help the team both on and off the pitch.”

This season, Ortega has yet to make an appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side. Nottingham Forest’s need for a new goalkeeper has arisen due to a knee injury that will keep John Victor sidelined for the remainder of the season. Since joining Manchester City in 2022, Ortega has made 56 appearances, playing a crucial role in their Premier League title victory in 2024, where he featured in 22 matches last season.
