Arsenal s Madueke Earns Goal Recognition After Impressive Performance Against LeedsArsenal s Madueke Earns Goal Recognition After Impressive Performance Against Leeds

Arsenal took the lead in their recent match against Leeds United, thanks to Martin Zubimendi, who broke the deadlock with a header in the 27th minute. The Gunners showcased their scoring potential, particularly from set-piece situations.

In the 38th minute, Madueke delivered a corner that created significant chaos in the box. His curling cross forced Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow into a precarious position, resulting in an own goal when Darlow unintentionally diverted the ball off the inside of the post.

After the match, Madueke expressed his disappointment over the initial ruling of the goal as an own goal. He argued, “How can that be an own goal? It was going on target; if the keeper’s not in the goal, then it goes in. I don’t understand how that’s classified as an own goal. I urge the Premier League to review this situation and rectify it for me.”

Fortunately for Madueke, the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel acknowledged his claim, officially awarding him Arsenal’s second goal in their commanding 4-0 win. A statement from the Premier League confirmed, “Noni Madueke has been credited with the goal, giving the former Chelsea winger his first Premier League goal for Arsenal.”

Madueke has already made an impact in the Champions League this season, netting three goals since his transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal in the summer of 2025. His last Premier League goal with Chelsea was against Manchester City on January 25, 2025, and he now aims to build on this momentum in the upcoming matches.

With fellow England international Bukayo Saka potentially sidelined due to injury, Madueke’s contributions will be crucial for Arsenal as they maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table.

Former England midfielder Fara Williams noted Madueke’s impressive performance, stating, “He was particularly good coming late into the game. His chance to shine came when Saka was injured, and he has shown his capabilities both for Arsenal and during his time with the national team.”

Mikel Arteta praised Madueke’s readiness and preparation, highlighting that his performance significantly impacted the team’s success.

Arsenal, currently competing for major titles across four competitions this season, will next face Chelsea in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, leading 3-2 on aggregate.
