Ajax and Feyenoord Struggle Amidst UnderperformanceAjax and Feyenoord Struggle Amidst Underperformance

Feyenoord appears to be in a deeper crisis currently, but according to Valentijn Driessen, Ajax is not faring any better. The Amsterdam club squandered a 2-0 lead against Excelsior Rotterdam, resulting in a 2-2 draw, which has seen them drop to fourth place in the standings.

Initially, there seemed to be no cause for concern for Ajax in Rotterdam, but a significant collapse occurred towards the end of the second half. In a video segment for De Telegraaf, Driessen commented that Ajax demonstrated signs of ‘complacency.’ He noted, “In the match against Excelsior, there was little to worry about initially; they weren’t playing particularly well, otherwise they would have been ahead by 4-0. It seems like a kind of complacency has set in. Several players failed to execute their responsibilities when the score was 2-0, which posed a real threat against Excelsior.”

Driessen also criticized Feyenoord’s performance, expressing concern for the future of coach Robin van Persie. He stated, “The management of Feyenoord will need to reconsider the position of the head coach when observing the team’s performance against PSV. Van Persie took responsibility for the lackluster display of his team against the champions.”
