Wolves Secure Key Signings Angel Gomes and Adam ArmstrongWolves Secure Key Signings Angel Gomes and Adam Armstrong

Wolverhampton Wanderers have successfully secured the signings of England midfielder Angel Gomes from Marseille and striker Adam Armstrong from Southampton.

Gomes joins the club on loan until the conclusion of the season, with Wolves retaining an option to purchase him for approximately £6 million.

Striker Armstrong makes the move for an initial fee of £7 million on a three-and-a-half-year contract, following the £48 million transfer of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace, which was also finalized on deadline day.

Currently, Wolves sit at the bottom of the Premier League, with an 18-point deficit from safety, and are preparing for a likely relegation to the Championship.

Head Coach Rob Edwards expressed enthusiasm about Gomes’ arrival, stating, “He [Gomes] and I have been discussing this for several weeks. I outlined our objectives and conveyed our desire to have him on board, emphasizing how he can contribute to our efforts.

“He’s genuinely excited to return to playing in England, and it’s exhilarating for us to welcome someone who is eager to prove himself and showcase his talents. He possesses considerable quality, and I look forward to seeing him integrate into our squad.”

Gomes began his professional career at Manchester United, where he made 10 appearances before transferring to Lille in 2020. During his time at Lille, he played 126 matches and scored 10 goals. He joined Marseille last summer and has found the net four times in 19 appearances, contributing to Roberto de Zerbi’s side being positioned third in Ligue 1. He made his England debut against Ireland in 2024 and has since earned four caps.

Adam Armstrong, who initiated his career at Newcastle, moved to Blackburn in 2018. He has spent the last four and a half years at Southampton, where he has netted 43 goals in 174 matches following his transfer from Blackburn Rovers in 2021. This season, he has scored 11 goals in 32 appearances for the Saints, having also undertaken a loan spell at West Bromwich Albion last year.

Edwards commented on Armstrong’s arrival: “Adam is genuinely excited to join us. He is a fierce competitor and brings a quality that we urgently need right now. He was eager to be part of Wolves, making today a significant one for the club.

“I have admired him for a long time. He is an exceptional footballer, a proven goal scorer, and a player who can adapt to various positions. He views himself primarily as a striker, but he offers much more than that.”
