Union Berlin Declines Opportunity to Sign Raheem SterlingUnion Berlin Declines Opportunity to Sign Raheem Sterling

Sky Germany reports that Union Berlin has been offered the chance to sign former Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling.

The ex-England international has been without a club since parting ways with the Premier League team earlier in the transfer window by mutual consent.

Horst Heldt, Union Berlin’s director of football, confirmed this development to Sky, stating: “Sometimes you have to rub your eyes. In this case, it didn’t really seem serious. We didn’t pursue it any further.”

Given that Sterling was reportedly earning £325,000 per week, it is understandable why the club opted not to move forward with this opportunity.

This scenario highlights the unpredictable nature of the final stages of the transfer window. Had Union Berlin chosen to pursue Sterling, it would have echoed their previous unsuccessful attempts to sign Isco three years ago, as well as Leonardo Bonucci’s short stint at the club.

The prospect of seeing Sterling play under Steffen Baumgart would have been intriguing, particularly in how he might have integrated into a squad known for its hard work and cohesive teamwork.
