Donny van de Beek Engages to Estelle Bergkamp Amid Career ChallengesDonny van de Beek Engages to Estelle Bergkamp Amid Career Challenges

Donny van de Beek began his relationship with Estelle Bergkamp in 2019 while he was still playing for Ajax. Although they are just now preparing to marry, the couple already shares two children: a three-year-old daughter and a son who was born in February 2024.

Their commitment to each other has now been solidified, as Van de Beek recently proposed. Estelle announced the exciting news on her Instagram account, sharing a collage of joyful moments with the caption: “The easiest YES ever.”

Despite facing challenges in making a significant impact at Manchester United after his 2020 transfer, Estelle has made a number of friends in England who have quickly extended their congratulations.

Numerous WAGS of current and former Manchester United players have responded to the engagement news. Cam Reading, the girlfriend of ex-United midfielder Scott McTominay, expressed her joy from Naples, stating: “Congratulations guys, so, so happy for you.”

Fern Maguire, wife of Harry Maguire, also shared her congratulations, while Anouska Santos, partner of Luke Shaw, gushed: “Awww guys, so, so happy for you xxxx.” Victor Lindelof’s wife, Maja, added: “Oh the biggest congratulations.”

International teammates have also voiced their support; Mikky, the girlfriend of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, exclaimed: “Awwwwww SO cute!!! Congratulations.”

Estelle’s sister Yasmin celebrated the news with three emojis representing tears of joy. Additionally, Dennis Bergkamp himself acknowledged the happy couple on social media with two heart emojis.

Currently, Van de Beek plays for Girona in Spain after a challenging tenure at Manchester United, where he made only 62 appearances. He had been loaned to both Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt before parting ways with the Red Devils in a cut-price deal.

Van de Beek experienced Champions League action in his debut season with Girona but has faced further difficulties in his second season. He sustained an Achilles injury during just his second match of the 2025-26 season against Athletic Club on September 23, ruling him out for a minimum of six months.

Despite these setbacks, Van de Beek is determined to leave his difficult time at United behind him. He shared with ESPN Netherlands: “I try to enjoy myself again, and I do that. Girona is a beautiful club with good football, and I believe I can contribute positively.”

He reflected on his time at Manchester United saying, “It is clear that nothing has come of it for either party. That is in the past, but I have no bad words for that club. I may not have played much, but I learned a lot during my time there.”

Having earned 19 senior caps for the Netherlands, Van de Beek’s last international appearance was in 2021. His reduced prominence at United has made an international recall for the 2026 World Cup unlikely, particularly following his recent injury. Nevertheless, he and Estelle can look forward to planning a grand wedding this summer, likely attended by numerous notable figures from the sports world.
