Kodai Sano Remains with NEC Amidst Ajax Interest

Kodai Sano briefly emerged as a candidate for Ajax, yet the Japanese player will remain with NEC this winter. Reports indicate that he was eager for a move to Amsterdam. Coach Dick Schreuder engaged in discussions with Sano regarding the situation.

“I try to distance myself from transfer discussions, but I am aware of everything happening with players,” said Schreuder in the lead-up to the match against AZ last weekend. He acknowledged the challenges Sano may face: “Can you manage it? Can you handle it?” He recognized that it can be quite difficult for a young player with so much pressure surrounding him. Ultimately, Sano expressed his desire to simply play football.

“We have decided that he will play, and he is set to start tomorrow,” Schreuder confirmed. NEC is preparing for their quarterfinal match in the KNVB Cup against FC Volendam.
